The Eternal One Chapter 4

                                       The Eternal One
                                           Chapter 4
(GGCapt) P.o.V.

I have been the gate guard captain for Deathrock village close to 40 years now. I have seen it all from, new families coming in to start a new life, to bandits trying to destroy everything the people here have built. I was here when the first Trader came, I was here when the first Merchant came to set up a shop, I was here when the first person came (well sense the village was first establish) boasting on how he’d claim the Deathrock the rock this village is named after, to the last challenger our former Lord of these lands Count Gerard Hamilton, I heard it was a last ditch effort to restore the families prestige and what fool man got was him and anyone else connected to the attempt killed save for one.

Only one weak frail girl as the sole survivor of that tragedy. For now at least, from what I heard those superstitious Elders they are planning to let that poor girl die of fever during the winter saying it is for the good of village.

Many of the adults that were spared from the Lord of the lands attempt to subjugate that rock, rejected the idea and offered to take the poor girl in as their own especially who could have any of there own, but the Elders had forbidden it threatening if anyone went against them then the elders would run them out of the village. Normally this kind of thing would never happen, but the elders out number younger 10-1, the guards like myself want to help, however the elders barred the towns weapons and there is only handful of us, even now us gate guard have barely enough equipment to fend off bandit raids…Sadly I can’t see any other outcome other than at some point during winter there will be a small body needing to…I shudder to even think of it any further on the whole situation. Pretty screwed up some people will do to survive.

“CAPTAIN!!!! CAPTAIN!!!!! CAPTAIN, COME QUICK!” (GG1)

“What the hell is going on out there?” (GGCapt)
I quickly get up to see what is going on when one of the guards on duty bursts in, in panic.
“Captain!, A dragon is approaching the village gate!” (GG2)

“What a Dragon? Impossible there are no dragons in this area, because of the deathrock. How can there be one here now?...ah more importantly which way is it flying in from?? Have you notified the elders to start evacuations?” (GGCapt)

“Ah…no sir”(GG2)

“What, why not? That should have the first thing to do in a dragon!” (GGCapt)

"Y-yes Sir, H-however the dragon while it has wings it is not flying, Sir. It is merely walking towards the village at a slow pace. We thought at first it was an injured dragon, however we can see no signs of injury anywhere.”(GG2)

I felt a chill start taking over my body when I heard of it being possible that it was an injured dragon. Something to note about dragons, a healthy dragon can be kill a lot of people in its attack, but even still they tend to allow survivors to leave. Injured or sick dragons are another thing entirely; they say a severed limb is the best anyone can hope for as a survivor of an injured or sick dragon.

As those thoughts cross my mind I followed the guard out to the gate where my lieutenant was reestablishing and maintaining order amongst the panic stricken guards. As I turn the corner to peer through the gate down to see the what kind of dragon was approaching right in front of my eyes with nothing but a flimsy iron gate separating me from the dragon…

*Brrraaapp …phhhhhffftttttttt …Squeeeeeeeeeeek-ERT*

“Oh…I am sooo glad I brought an extra pair today…”(GGCapt)

Yep I passed out and when I came too I was back in the Guard Captain’s Office I panicked when I remembered the dragon, checking myself.

“Ah… Safe two arms, 2 Legs, all 11 fingers no burns or heavy injuries…All normal!” (GGCapt)

I get up change my (shit and piss stained) clothes and head out to the gate again and see the lieutenant giving out orders in my place.

“Soo embarrassing…”

“Sorry Tyran, what is the situation were you guys able to subdue the dragon?”(GGCapt)

“…No Cpt. Currently the dragon remains at the gate and doing nothing else, however it appears 2 children came with the dragon one of them is a boy from this town as well as a young child believed to be a young girl all of maybe 3 years of age, however upon closer inspection it is believed to be the young orphan girl Lily.  The boy is currently supporting the girl who seems to have lost consciousness and is currently resting on the back of the dragon while the boy is standing next to it. For right now the dragon is showing no signs of attacking or wanting to attack, however any of the guards that attempt to approach are threatened with bodily injury by a strange unknown barrier of Lightening magic.” (Tyran)

“Lightening magic barrier isn’t that the same thing that rock uses to warn anyone that approaches it?” (GGCapt)

I once again am reminded of the day so many people died, because of that rock.

“Yes, Capt. and from careful observation the dragon outside the gate has the exact same coloration as that rock. As the Capt. is aware many scholars believe that it was not a rock or boulder, but hypothesized that it may have in fact been a dragon’s egg. As I look at this dragon Capt. I can’t help, but think they were right.”

After listening to the Lt.’s report I could help it yet again I felt like death had taken form and descend unto this poor town I turned to face our would be executioner, but before I could confront the dragon or ask the towns boy what is going on those bastards that call themselves elders showed up.

“Where is the Capt.? Get him out here now; we want to know what he is doing to fix this situation!”(Elder 1)

“Ugh…they showed up. Can’t we feed them to the dragon...? On second thought better not it might make the dragon sick.”(GGCapt)

I turned to deal with the incoming elders.
